As a part of Quinnipiac University’s “Ireland’s Great Hunger” initiative, the “Famine Folios” are a new publication program designed to provide a unique Famine resource for scholars and researchers. As a continuation of the branding and exhibition work Group C did for the Museum, our studio was again asked to participate as collaborators and designers in this new program that would serve as an extension of the “Ireland’s Great Hunger” brand as well as require a slightly more literary presence to represent the academic perspective of the initiative.

We launched the Famine Folios series with four 30–60 paged illustrated essays, each written by renowned professors and historians of the great Famine of Ireland. These illustrated pamphlets reference pieces of art within the Ireland’s Great Hunger Museum collection and are also a demonstration of Ireland’s Great Hunger Institute’s extensive database of pictorial newspapers. The program intends to continue to release four pamphlets a year.
